Sensory Walk
Upon arrival the children are welcomed and time is allowed for morning tea and toileting. Experienced Centre teachers lead the children in small groups through the forest where the children participate in a variety of sensory awareness activities.
The activities include:
- Collecting natural objects of different colour and texture
- Examining mini-beasts and fungi through environmental viewers
- Framing natural beauty in message windows
- Listening to bush sounds/illustrating them
- Exploring life in the understorey
- Examining creek life
- Balancing on logs/crossing creeks using rope and stepping stones
- Smelling unique forest odours
- Observing wildlife
- Leaf rubbings
After lunch, the children participate in a variety of activities including feely hands and feet and creature feature where the children meet some of the native animals.
BEST MANAGEMENT
Visits are best in third term. (Fourth term is too hot with big march flies)
A class size gives a safe ratio of children to teachers and enhances the experience.
Parents are welcome!
Have a clear name badge for each student - best placed on the child's hat.
Bring a class list for our administrative purposes.
Lunches and morning teas can be brought in baskets and distributed at the Centre.
The best visits are supported by pre and post activities. (We can help with these)
